Ministry Update

Dear Partners,

The month of April brought with it a lot of pollen to the Greenville area. Not only did it cover the vehicles in a yellow blanket, but it continues to play havoc with Susan’s asthma and my allergies. All month the pollen count read “Yes”. I think my nose runs faster than I do 🤧It has helped to maintain a sense of humor when feeling bad.
We are thankful that God has provided the necessary grace during a busy month of ministry.

FAMILY FOCUS
  • As I reported in past ministry updates, our oldest son and grandson have lived with us for the last four months during a time of transition for the family. We are thankful that they now have their own home in the Greenville area. Last Thursday I traveled to Chattanooga and helped load the 26 ft. U-haul truck for the big move. After their daughter Gracyn graduates from HS May 15, the family will be reunited.
  • For twelve days (10th-22nd) Susan and I watched over three young granddaughters (and a dog) while our second son David and his wife Amy got away to Europe for a much-needed time together. Homework, baths, lunches and drop off and picking up from school became the routine. It brough back a lot of memories from when we were raising our children…although we were much younger then.
  • My sister Anita and her husband Jim live a mile from us. Jim was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer March of last year. His condition has grown steadily worse. Three weeks ago, he was transported to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. This week they received the news from doctors that there was nothing more they could do. He is now transitioning to palliative care and hospice. Jim and I have had numerous conversations about life and death. Conversations with Anita and Jim have continued in Florida through another family member who is a believer.  Please pray that the gospel seed would land in fertile soil and spring forth in eternal life. Please pray also for Anita during this difficult, emotional time.
PRAYER FOCUS
  • In April, Open Door BC in New Woodstock, NY entered a period of transition, as Pastor DeLeon assumed another ministry assignment in NY. It was a blessing to fly to NY (11-13th) and speak in three services on prayer as the church launched a six-week season of prayer. The church is entering its third week, and many are sharing how encouraging this united extraordinary prayer focus has been already.
REVITALIZATION FOCUS
  • On Tuesday evening the 28th, the New Hartford, NY steering committee met. As I have reported in past ministry updates, BCP is assisting the Bible Baptist Church in New Hartford, which is currently in transition. Two helping churches also make up the committee. Missionary pastor Tom Taylor and his wife Shari are doing a wonderful job as they serve this congregation during the revitalization process. Already, one of the young men in the church has surrendered to the gospel ministry. While added responsibility falls on the deacons during transition, Tuesday evening there was much to be thankful for and celebrate. These faithful deacons were encouraged, and next steps were presented to alleviate some of the burdens the men are under.
  • May 22-24 Jon Jenks and I will be traveling to Reading, PA to hold a Friday-Sunday consultation with two churches that are considering merging. Both churches have pastors. This will be an important weekend for both congregations. Please pray for us as we lead joint training (Fri/Sat).  On Sunday morning, Jon will speak at one church while I speak at the other, followed by a debrief in the afternoon.
Thank you for your love, support, and prayers for this ministry.

Joyfully serving Christ and His church,

Marty and Susan Basinger
