Happy Spring!

What an eventful March and early April we have had, although a lot of it was unplanned! I want to express my gratitude for all of the prayers and encouragement from you as so many unexpected and new situations presented themselves these past few weeks.

First, March was filled with lots of illness. Steve began the month with a head cold, which he soon passed to me. Calvin endured a round of strep throat and London was down for a few days with a fever and stomach ache. The Lord was gracious and we were thankful for quick recoveries!

On March 28, Steve received a phone call from our beloved school nurse letting him know that Calvin had fallen on the playground and injured his arm. She recommended we take him to the ER—quickly—to get X-rays. Those X-rays confirmed that he had indeed broken his elbow and needed surgery at a different hospital.

Overall, we were at Upstate Medical Hospital in the pediatric wing for two nights. The staff provided Calvin with amazing care, his surgery went well, and he was discharged on March 30 with a light blue cast, ibuprofen, and instructions to limit his activity. (All this not long before his 9th birthday!)

Watching our son deal with such physical pain and discomfort was not easy, and spending most of our work/school week in the hospital was not the plan, but God was surely with us every step of the way. We were so grateful for every phone call and text checking up on us. Family and friends stepped in to help out in every way possible, from caring for London to preaching in Steve’s place that week.

Calvin was extremely grateful and comforted when I let him know about each person and church that said they were praying for him, as were Steve and I. THANK YOU!

I also want to express appreciation for your prayers regarding me leaving my position at the library. I began working there one month after moving to New York, so I barely know what it’s like to live here without that job! My last shift was April 6, and although I know I will miss it terribly, I’m looking forward to my next steps. The library hosted “Cupcakes with Kristen” during my last two shifts. I enjoyed visiting with beloved patrons over the sweet treat and having the chance to say goodbye before leaving.

Early in March, Steve and Chip and Karen Wood led an EMBARK teacher training in Dundee, NY. Our kids were sick, which meant Steve had to go without us, but they had a wonderful time! Approximately 25 people from several churches attended the training, which was an all-day event. Steve received great feedback from them, and many people expressed a desire to either begin discipling someone or to be discipled themselves.

We also enjoyed the inaugural Muffin Mayhem at Constantia Center on March 19. Steve loved his role as the High Chancellor of Muffins, and congratulations to Regina—the champion! Our family also took a special trip to Syracuse to visit The MOST (Museum of Science and Technology) during the kids’ spring break.

Steve also completed Leadership Journey with his CCBC crew at the beginning of April. It was such a blessing for him to get to know these men better and meet with them for weekly discipleship.

He also had the privilege of preaching about the significance of church membership at our home church on March 26. It was joyous for our family to spend a Lord’s Day with our sending church and catch up with so many people we haven’t hugged in a while!

God Bless,
Steve, Kristen, London & Calvin
