Hello Prayer Partners!
A group from West Smyrna Baptist joined together on Wednesday, May 28 for our first celebration of prayer. For 45 minutes, we joined together to:
- adore God from His Word (specifically that He is holy and worthy of our praise from Isaiah 6:1-4 and Revelation 4:8-11)
- share thanksgivings and answers to prayer
- pray for one another
- pray for the lost in our lives and for opportunities to share Christ
- pray for our future pastor and that the Lord would make it clear who the man is for our church (Matthew 9:36-38 and Ephesians 4:11-16).
We ended that time of prayer encouraged and full of hope. How awesome is our God that we have access to His throneroom in Heaven and that He is with us! We are excited to see how He answers our prayers.

What’s in progress?
We’re in our third month of revitalization at West Smyrna Baptist Church. Join us in praising the Lord for all He is accomplishing in His church:
- We are continuing to pray for the Lord to provide West Smyrna’s next pastor.
- We are beginning to develop a process for identifying and preparing men from the church for pastoral or missions ministry.
- We will be approaching the halfway point of our Foundations Study in June.
- Fellow BCP missionaries Marty & Susan Basinger joined us on May 4. Marty preached on the topic, “Lord, Teach us to Pray.”
- We kicked off our Celebration of Prayer. We meet monthly on the last Wednesday to pray as a body.
- We began our new sermon series in James, “Wisdom for the Church.”
We had a productive church work day at the parsonage. A number of trees were cleared, along with prepping the property and laying down flooring in the kitchen. Many hands made light work!
BCP Director Marty Basinger, and his wife Susan, were with us in early May. Marty preached on the Disciples’ request that Jesus teach them to pray. We had a great annual meeting, combined with a church meal. Steve’s dad is pictured leading announcements. All of the deacons and wives went out for a steak dinner at a local restaurant to celebrate all that the Lord has done in the past year!
Camp ReCharge was a big hit! We had over 100 teens for the weekend. The FBT Youth Praise Band excelled at leading worship. It was an emotional moment for Steve seeing them and how far they have come from last August. Many thanks to all of you for your prayers and for the men and women who served to make the weekend a success.
Some praises with Faith Baptist Tabernacle:
- Our new associate pastor, Patrick Ashcraft, joined J. and Steve at the Basics Conference. Already the Ashcrafts are getting plugged into FBT.
- Our youth group is preparing for the end of the year. We will have our final event, a Senior Banquet, on June 13. We will celebrate our three graduating seniors.
- Our teen praise band did an excellent job at ReCharge!
Keep praying for our youth group, especially that the teens will be consistent in the Word over the summer months.
We loved connecting with fellow BCP Missionaries Tim & Marsha Weeks for dinner. Steve enjoyed attending the Basics Conference in Ohio again this year. London and Calvin enjoyed their final music lesson for the year. During our Tuesday small group, we played a competitive game of kickball and had an outdoor picnic.
